Hey ladies! 💁♀️ I want to take a moment to chat with you honestly and openly, because we’re all in this amazing phase of life together. Most of us are in our 40s and 50s, and let me tell you, you are absolutely incredible! Your bodies have accomplished some truly remarkable things over the past few decades. 🌟
Now, let’s talk about something that’s been on your mind: that pesky number on the scale. It’s time to shift our focus, my friends, and remember what truly matters—feeling great again! 🌈 Remember when you felt amazing in your own skin? It might have been before the kids, before the stresses piled up, and before the responsibilities multiplied. Back then, you had more time to exercise, slept soundly through the night, and let’s face it, your body was a bit younger too.
But here’s the thing: you can’t hold yourself to the same standards as your 20-something or 30-something self. Life has changed, and so has your body. And that’s okay! Our bodies have different needs as we age, and what made us feel fantastic before might not be what our bodies need now. 🌼
I understand how frustrating it can be when you’re “doing everything right” and that scale just won’t budge. It’s not just about the number, though. Your overall muscle-to-fat ratio has likely shifted too, and that’s completely normal. So please, don’t be discouraged. You’re not alone in this struggle.
Sometimes, the lack of progress on the scale is beyond our control. Hormonal changes, blood sugar imbalances, cortisol, inflammation, thyroid issues—it’s a perfect storm that can make weight loss feel impossible. On top of that, our lifestyle habits are not always easy to change. We may be dealing with poor sleep, low growth hormone levels, less-than-ideal diets, and reduced exercise. It’s no wonder weight loss can feel like an uphill battle. 🏔️
Just take a look around you, and you’ll see that many women in their 40s and 50s experience the dreaded abdominal weight gain, trading the hourglass figure for an apple shape. This is the result of all those changes we mentioned earlier—a storm that affects most of us.
Here’s what I have to say:
- You are not alone. I have not met a single woman who was 100% happy with her body and/or weight. Even the women who you would think should be happy. This is a cultural thing for sure and we need to be careful as our daughters are learning EVERYTHING from us, including our relationships with our bodies, food, and happiness.
- Being overweight and obese is about inflammation in your body and the very negative consequences of what this does to your body, especially long-term. If you’d like to live longer and have a higher quality of life, you need to keep your inflammation in check. One of the ways to do this is to keep a healthy weight. When I show my patients in their 40s and 50s the high risk of cardiovascular disease ALREADY as measured by inflammatory markers, it can be a wake-up call to make some sustainable changes.
- Are you ready to finally make some changes because you know you can’t keep doing what you’re doing? You are trying and it’s just not really working, you need some guidance and support, you want to see some hard and fast numbers of your health, you need some medication to jump-start some weight loss and “turn down the food noise” so you can focus on feeding your body what it wants, or you are just fed up with the way you are feeling overall?
- I can help you. You don’t have to do this alone. You are worth the investment. Being chronically ill has a much higher cost: not only in dollars but also in TIME. Time is the most valuable asset you have. Look at your children as an example: just yesterday they were born, in Kinder, and now graduating…where did all the time go?
The lifestyle changes you make today will pay dividends for you in the decades to come. If you’re seeking personalized guidance and support to navigate perimenopause, I’m here to help. I offer one-on-one consultations where we can discuss your specific needs, and concerns, and develop a tailored plan to enhance your well-being.
